Eutk (TOP DEMO December 2005)

I Grimness 69 sono una grindcore band italiana che ha alle spalle
già un bel pò di gavetta, avendo registrato degli split con bands del
calibro di Groinchurn ed avendo suonato con Malignant Tumor e
Avulsed, oltre a poter contare sulla partecipazione allo Obscene
Extreme Fest ceco, vero happening per le bands del genere.
Questo "Promo 2005" consta di sole nove tracce per soli undici
minuti, ma quello che c'è, seppur poco, è sufficiente a darci un'idea
delle qualità della band, che sono molte.
Grindcore dicevamo, con batteria disumana, ai limiti della drum-
machine, con doppie vocals, una tipicamente in screamin' grind e
l'altra in brutale growl, un assalto sonoro dilaniante e senza
fronzoli. Interessante la produzione, abbastanza pulita da
permettere di distinguere gli strumenti e le vocals ma allo stesso
tempo grezza per ferire ancora di più i nostri timpani.
Inoltre la band vanta anche una certa ironia, la quale spesso si
accompagna alle bands del genere, ma che altrettanto spesso
inficia la proposta musicale, che passa in secondo piano rispetto
alla musica. Qui non accade e, seppure titoli come "My Mongoloid
Girlfriend" e "Spermrainbow" possano strapare un sorriso, d'altro
canto sono delle vere e proprie schegge di brutale e devastante
grind. Promuovo a pieni voti questa band, perché in fondo ha
capito tutto del grind e sicuramente in futuro potrà regalarci
ulteriori sorprese. Poi una band che dice di ispirarsi ai Gore
Beyond Necropsy ha tutta la mia stima, incondizionata.

An Italian band citing ANAL CUNT as their main influence; who the
hell isn’t up for that? GRIMNESS was formed in early 2001 from the
ashes of the hardcore-grind project VALLIUM and is not at all to be
confused with the Italian Black Metal band of the same name.
Vocalist/bassist Lord Nuclear Ripped Pig and vocalist/guitarist
Tetsuo Hirashi Mitakawa discovered drummer Cianus The Anus and
the band was kick-started with the very intention of “DESTROY
USELESS HUMAN FUCKIN RACE!” Producing only a couple of splits
and demo material it is no wonder not even a handful of Italian
Metal-heads have heard of these guys. Hopefully this will not be the
case for long. This promo consists of 9 colourfully titled songs which
appear interesting right off the bat (perhaps not as interesting as
ANAL CUNT albums but still interesting nonetheless). Each consist of
a minute of harsh vocal work, which is made up of a combination of
Black Metal flavoured growl and a higher pitched scream, buzzing
guitars which shriek like a human doused in flame and thundering
drumming which consists of mostly blast beats. Relatively genre
atypical and straightforward cut-throat Grindcore. The CD seems to
die out before it even begins due to the short length of the release
but does provide a snippet of carnage which is satisfying if in need
of a Grind snack. Despite the lack of innovation in song structures
there are a couple of instances and standout tracks in which a bit
of ingenuity is utilized and we are hit with either a snappy and
catchy rhythm in the middle of the violence, or a rough riff which
actually stands out above the mess. When this occurs it serves well
to break up the chunk of music into discernable sections
(if not songs) and gives the songs identity. This is good. My only
complaint with the release is the lack of lyrics on the flyer as well
as on their web site. If you are going to go the route of ANAL CUNT
you better damn well give me lyrics. Despite this minor issue, the
release is interesting and certainly up to par with mainstream Grind.
Certainly an act to keep an eye out for as hopefully a debut
full-length is not long in coming.

Eternitymagazin (November 2005)

Die Italiener Grimness firmieren mittlerweile unter dem Namen
Grimness69.
Vor kurzem hatte ich die Gelegenheit das Trio auf ihrer Tour
zusammen mit Avulsed zu erleben und war schwer beeindruckt.
Umso erfreuter war ich, als diese Promo CD bei uns hereinflatterte.
Mittlerweile haben die Jungs einen Vertrag bei Grindmind Records
und arbeiten an neuem Material.
Es ist mir nicht bekannt, ob vorliegendes Werk überhaupt käuflich
erhältlich ist, auf der Homepage taucht es jedenfalls nicht unter den
Releases auf.
Aber nun zur Musik. Grimness(69) hauen uns in 11 Minuten 9
mitreißende, leicht blackig angehauchte Grind - Crust Granaten um
die Ohren, hin und wieder (vor allem bei "Let me vomit on J.C.
Cross") drängen sich Parallelen zu Napalm Deaths "Scum" Album
auf. Vorrangig fällt aber der extrem gut gelungene Gesamtsound
auf, was für Bands dieses Genres ja leider auch im Jahre 2005
keine Selbstverständlichkeit ist.
Grimness(69) sind pure Aggression, purer von Geisteskrankheit
gesteuerter Haß.
Diese Scheibe ist die totale Zerstörung, besonders die extrem
aggressiven, leidenschaftlich vorgetragenen und sehr
abwechslungsreichen Vocals haben es mir angetan.
Super Scheibe, ich will das Album!

Holymetal (November 2005)

Nove tracce velocissime e intense per il lavoro di questo demenziale
terzetto della provincia di Venezia.
Nomi dei componenti e titoli delle canzoni danno già un’idea
sufficiente della filosofia della band, il cui punto fermo è
“distruggere l’inutile razza umana”, messaggio divulgato per mezzo
di sonorità che uniscono il grind della migliore tradizione a ritmi
punk. Il risultato è assolutamente d’effetto, specie in brani come
“My Mongoloid Girlfriend”, dove oltre al ritmo spicca anche la risatina
sardonica del vocalist Lord Nuclear Ripped Pig, la velocissima
“Light or Extintion”, e “Mundo de Mierda”, cantata in italiano, che
ricorda un po’ in ritmo e parole il filone punk, e nella quale spicca,
proprio nel ritornello, una bella “r” di Marghera!!!
Un miscuglio di odio, cattiveria, turpitudini varie e anti-clericalismo di
sicuro impatto, da ascoltare tutto d’un fiato, consigliato
assolutamente agli amanti del genere. In più, un gruppo che
sarebbe interessante poter vedere dal vivo, e, a giudicare dal
nutrito numero di esibizioni che i Grimness vantano dalla data della
loro formazione nel lontano 2001, non sembra affatto impossibile.
Curiosità: i Grimness hanno recentemente deciso di mutare il loro
monicker in Grimness69, forse a causa dell’esistenza di un’omonima
black metal band svedese.
Altra curiosità: questo cd promo si presenta senza titolo e senza
copertina, almeno per il momento; trovo che sarà interessante
vedere quale artwork sceglierà in futuro la band…c’è da
scommettere che sarà d’impatto!

From the ashes of Vallium, Grimness was born. This Italian band is
influenced by grind and crustcore music. Before I received the
promo, I've been looking on the internet for this band. I've found
two bands called Grimness and they are both from Italy; perhaps
that’s why this band changed their name into Grimness 69.
This promo CD contains nine grind- crustcore songs with a total of
11 minutes playtime. These ultra fast songs are well produced for a
band int his genre. I wasn't familiar with their previous work but
I'm willing to now, after listening to these eleven songs. The fourth
track on this album ( Let me vomit on the J.C. Kross) reminds me of
Napalm Death’s "Scum" album. You can hear the crust influences
during songs like "Meconium" and "My Mongoloid Girlfriend".
The last song on this album is "Mundo De Mierda" which reminds
me of Cripple Bastards because of the fast and mid tempo parts in
the song. I really like the fast drums, the deep grunts and
aggressive screams on this promo. Their main goal is to become a
good underground band; I think they can become a big band in the
underground scene and maybe even more. I'm really looking
forward to hear a full length album from this band. For fans of ultra
fast crustcore in the line of bands like Napalm Death and Cripple
Bastards this Grimness 69 is certainly a band to keep an eye on,
just be sure that you pick Grimness 69 and not mix 'm up with
others...

Hardsounds (October 2005)

I Grimness69 sono una delle realtà più estreme della scena grind
italiana. Nati nel 2001 dalle ceneri dei Vallium hanno spinto la loro
proposta sonora e concettuale verso l'eccesso più eccessivo (gioco
di parole dovuto), con un'attitudine fortemente debitrice a GG Allin,
Rupture e Anal Cunt, ovvero tre dei migliori esempi di estremismo
che il punk abbia partorito (o abortito che dir si voglia).
Questo promo CD denota un certo miglioramento dal punto di vista
musicale già riscontrabile nello split con gli Holocausto Canibal.
Fino a quella release il noisecore del gruppo era troppo devoto ai
padrini Anal Cunt e 7 minutes of nausea ed aveva come scopo
principale l'essere totalmente sopra le righe lasciando in secondo
piano l'aspetto puramente sonoro.
Di contro i nove pezzi che compongono questo promo hanno una
struttura più curata ed etichettabile come una sorta di crust\grind
che in alcuni momenti può ricordare qualcosa dei Cripple Bastards
di mezzo o dei primi Napalm Death.
E così tra una "My Mongoloid Girlfriend", "Piss Not Peace",
"Spermrainbow", "Mundo de Mierda" gli 11 minuti finiscono in fretta,
tra grindati, strutture hardcore e lamentosi growl e screaming.
E' evidente come la componente ironico-demenziale sia ancora un
marchio di fabbrica, dopotutto pseudonimi come Nuclear Ripped Pig,
Tetsuo Hirashi Mitikawa e Jesus Christ Hooker non possono che
portare a questo. La registrazione infine è perfetta per questo tipo
di genere, non eccessivamente pulita ma nemmeno troppo "da
cantina" ed è anch'essa un passo in avanti rispetto ai precedenti
lavori della band veneta.
11 minuti sono un po' pochi per valutare al meglio, conoscendo però
alcune releases precedenti della band prima del piccolo cambio di
monicker (visto il continuo confondersi con un'altra band italiana
dedita invece al black metal) e avendoli visti on stage non posso
che constatare un miglioramento; miglioramento che va
sicuramente premiato.

Potrei esordire in mille modi. Potrei citare la band, la carriera,le
peculiarita’ con altre formazioni. Iniziero’ invece con la definizione
del genere proposto: Nihilogrincoreblackholocaust, letto tutto d’un
fiato. E da questo inizio si potrebbe gia’ arrivare ad una fine.
La fine del mondo, possibilmente.I connazionali Grimess69
accostano la propria idea ad Anal Cunt e 7 Minutes Of Nausea,
band che propongono un grind vecchio stampo, al cui confronto
gente come Cannibal Corpse, Skinless e affini puo’ tranquillamente
sbiadire o annichilire. Devastanti su tutta la linea, i Mortician piu’
tecnici, padroni assoluti dei pochi minuti messi a disposizione.
9 pezzi per 11 minuti. Credo siamo vicini ad un record, o poco ci
manca. Avete presente le pressurizzazioni sonore di gente come
Bastard Saints, Undertakers, Mindsnare, Insane Assholes e
Cadaveric Crematorium? Bene, tutta la loro essenza trasuda dalle
viscere decomposte di questo demo, che umilia noi poveri esseri
umani, condannati ormai a vivere in questa frammentaria realta’.
I relatori dell’apocalisse portano i nomi di Lord Nuclear Ripped
Pig,Emperor Tetsuo Hirashi Mitakawa e Jesus Christ (…) Hooker aka
The Hammer Of God e niente sembra opporsi alla loro devastante
proposta. L’assalto sonoro inizia con Autos Da Fe’, per continuare
con My Mongoloid Grilfriend (…), Naziphobia, Spermrainbow, Light or Extincion?, Piss Not Peace, Let me Vomit, Meconium e Mundo de
Mierda (quando si dice andare al concetto di fondo). Raccontare i
singoli pezzi e’ assolutamente inutile, basti dire che tutte le killer
song sono ben congegnate, non stagnano su partiture tutto
massacro a tesa bassa e alternano alterazioni old-grind a brevi
tempi cadenzati. Una produzione essenziale e pesantissima, come il
genere insegna. Disordine mentale e caos sopraffino. Per me,uno
dei dischi grind dell’anno.

I Grimness 69 sono una grindcore band con le idee decisamente
chiare e nitide. Questa chiarezza di intenti è determinata dal fatto
che le strutture pur essendo semplici, per non dire scarne riescono
ugualmente a dire tutto, ma proprio tutto in modo completo e
distruttivo, è fortissima in questo senso una spiccata vena
hardcore/punk nel riffing, che rendo tutto più fluido e scorrevole.
Pur essendo estremamente corto (cosa normale per una band del
genere) i Grimness 69 riescono a centrare l’obbiettivo spaccando
tutto e tutti, forse solo nove canzoni sono estremamente poche,
sinceramente vista le capacità che riversano nel songwrinting avrei
osato di più, diciamo che venti pezzi del genere avrebbero
sicuramente reso il prodotto ancor più completo, ma comunque
poco male, la qualità si assesta su un buon livello.
Ciliegina sulla torta è una produzione sporca certo, ma allo stesso
tempo pulita e potente, gli strumenti sono messi in evidenza in
modo chiaro e compatto, azzeccata direi. Personalmente non amo i
track by track nelle recensioni, figuriamoci quando si sta parlando di
grindcore, quindi non posso far altro che indirizzarvi verso questo
promo 2005 che farà la gioia di tutti gli amanti di queste sonorità, a
voi ora.

The first time you'll hear this CD, you'll feel like a woman during
PMS. You won't know whether to laugh or beat something to death.
Therein lies Grimness's personality-drenched music. It's when you
know that regardless of the music, Grimness are going to be a
group you remember because of their accidental image, so to speak.
Make no mistake, though, upon first listen this CD offers one
extremely basic, yet highly addictive brand of death metal that
supplies excellent riffs in fucking spades. It always helps to be able
to make music that completely bludgeons on top of humorous
songtitles like "My Mongoloid Girlfriend," which is actually one of the
better cuts from the entire CD. The vocals are rough as hell, and
the music rapidly transitions between speeding moments of death
metal freneticism and almost southern-born grooves and plods.
A large portion of the enjoyment of this CD is definitely found in the
songlenth. Songs aren't longer than two minutes a piece. Hell, the
entire album doesn't run any longer than eleven minutes.
While that would send most into a tantrum, you have to consider
the logic here. Grimness lack any semblence of originality. As much
ass as their music kicks, if you think they're writing any new music,
you're obviously deranged or Quaker. Either one warrants
engulfment in flames. They kept their music short to keep the entire
thing from dragging out. Consider it like a musical punch – extremely
quick and effective, while still retaining the character of death metal.
You just can't ignore how catchy Grimness are, though. Honestly,
it's a rarity when a band can manage to retain heaviness and
personality, but when they can be catchy without sacrificing either,
that's when you know you've got a CD worth remembering on your
hands. Grimness are going to be a very popular band very soon if
they can manage to keep on making music like they've done in this
demo.

Blackfuel (September 2005)

Om problemen met land- en voormalig naamgenoten uit de weg te
gaan, plakte dit Italiaanse gezelschap onlangs ‘69’ aan de naam,
en werd er onder deze nieuwe noemer ook meteen een nieuwe
promo rondgestuurd. Ter extra promotie fungeren de heren
komende maand ook als voorprogramma tijdens de aankomende
Europese tour van Avulsed.
Achter de simpele titel ‘Promo 2005’ schuilt één van de meest
verrassende schijfjes van de laatste tijd. Grindcore gaat hand in
hand met rauwe underground black metal en ondanks het grote
verschil tussen deze twee genres wordt alles naadloos aan elkaar
geplakt. Alsof het een simpel optelsommetje betreft slingert men je
van het ene naar het andere uiterste.
Het ene moment zit de band qua sfeer dicht bij het Old Man’s Child
cultdebuut ‘Born Of The Flickering’, om het vervolgens middels een
tien seconden goregrindknaller binnen een oogwenk compleet over
een andere boeg te gooien. Door de enigszins afwijkende
benadering van het grindgenre vertonen de nummers ook
raakvlakken met een band als Cripple Bastards. De volle speelduur
is het een muur van spontane neurotische chaos en snelheid die de
dienst uitmaakt en het vooral bij de grindfans goed zal doen.

Êita desgraça, olha a porradaria da boa aí... O Grimness é o
seguinte, uma banda italiana (não confunda com a xará de Black
Metal, também italiana e que também, vejam só, foi fundada em
2001, vixi!!!) que nasceu em 2001 das cinzas do Vallium, uma
banda de Old Hardcore/Grind, na primavera de 2001 mesmo eles
lançaram um Split 7” com o Groinchurn da África do Sul, depois
vieram mais gravações split com os gore grinders do Holocausto
Cannibal (Portugal), Víscera (Austrália), em 2003 os nego tiveram
as manhas de se apresentar no nada mais, nada menos Obscene
Extreme Fest lá na República Tcheca ao lado de nomes como Dead
Infection, Macabre, Denak entre várias outras, ou seja tava bom
demais, porém no inverno de 2003 o então batera Cianus The Anus
caiu fora, foi escurraçado do então trio, no lugar da figura foi
chamado então um substituto com o singular pseudônimo Jesus
Christ Hooker. O legal da história é que este novo membro veio da
cena death/black metal porém assim como eles também luta contra
a raça humana, oou seja, além disso que é ótimo, o cara trouxe
novas idéias e influências que resultam em algo como : Grind/HC/
Crust/Death Metal. Opa, não é prá rir não, esta definição foi eu
mesmo que inventei, pois vejam só se é possível, os caras bebem
intensamente da cena grind/crust, usam uma bateria com a
cadencia habitual da velocidade Death Metal Norte-Americana para
a versão velocíssima intensa e deliciosa do Grind/Crust, barulhenta,
quebrada e o material tem faixas curtíssimas como “Let Me Vomit
On The J.C. Kross” com 13 segundos, algo comum no gênero, e
detalhe, o vocal é dividido entre o gritado/desesperado do
Crust/HC com o vomitado esporrento do Grind e o urrado do Death,
e ainda tem as faixas, algumas desbancam pra Grind, outros pro
Crust e por exemplo “Meconium”, “My Mongoloid Girlfriend” (muito
foda esta faixa!) e “Mundo de Mierda” que apesar da velocidade
tem uma pegada diferente e que possui um quê (apesar de
pequeno) do Death Metal tradicional.
Bom, tentei resumir e passar pra você ae do outro lado o que vem
à ser a insana produção destes italianos, influências e misturebas
diversas, não posso deixar de citar que Napalm Death é sim uma
certa referência, porém o power trio tem personalidade de sobra, e
carisma de sobra, pois seus pseudônimos são obra de arte. Eles
estão para lançar via Grindmind Records um full length cd e é bem
provável que esta seja a promo Cd deste álbum. Ou seja, eu não
sei pois não está informado em lugar algum se isto é referente,
mas imagino. Bom, sem sombra de dúvidas se vocês gosta de
Grind/Crust e também de Death Metal esta é uma boa oportunidade
para se conhecer um novo nome, te garanto diversão você vai ter
de sobra. Recomendado para loucos, sedentos por desgraceiras!

Aquí tengo la promo 2005 de unos italianos llamados Grimness, que
nos ofrecen nueve temas de Grindcore bastante influenciado por el
Hardcore pero al mismo tiempo bastante brutos. Según ellos sus
principales influencias son Anal Cunt, 7 minutes of nausea o Gore
Beyond Necropsy, y se autodefinen como Grindcore nihilista. A mí la
banda no me sonaba de nada, pero, por lo que pone en la hoja
promocional, tienen ya algunos trabajos compartidos con bandas
tales como Groinchurn, Viscera o Holocausto Canibal y tocaron en el
Obscene Extreme 2003. Aunque los temas no sean nada nuevo ni
extremadamente complejo, no estan mal del todo, con partes
ultrarápidas y otras más cercanas al hardcore, una voz gutural y
otra gritona de fondo(incluso alguna vez aparece alguna en plan
ultragorrina), una duración media de un minuto(nada de noise en
plan tres segundos) y una producción más que aceptable, puedo
decir que se trata de un buen trozo de Grindcore, intenso y
destructivo como debe ser. En teoria esto debería ser parte de
algún larga duración que tienen pensado sacar en no demasiado
tiempo.

I confess that the only Grimness I always knew it also from Italy
but they play Black Metal! I think it's strange in a very small country
(in relationship Brazil of course) two bands with the same name.
Well, one way or another, it's just to listen both bands and you will
know who is who. I prefer this Grimness (now Grimness 69).
Great band, very fast and heavy, a Root-Hardcore full of Death
Metal, Grindcore, Crust and Punk Rock elements. Formed in 2001,
soon the band released a Split/7" EP with a South African band
called Groinchun. Another split-albums came with bands from
Portugal, Australia, etc. From this material on, they received invites
to make gigs and to take their name into the European
Underground scene. In 2003 with the old drummer - Cianus The
Anus -split, the band called a man with the beloved name Jesus
Christ Hooker and the line-up was completed. The complete line-up
is Lord Nuclear Ripped Pig -vocals and bass and Emperor Tetsuo
Hirashi Mitakawa guitars and vocals.
Talking about this promo just released, what I can guarantee to
you is that this band knows very well where they want to be. They
play the songs with punch, power and honesty but I only ask to
you prepare your ears because the Grind/Crust Core from Grimness
is sick! Let Me Vomit On The J.C. Kross with only 13 seconds made
me to remember from the old Napalm Death. Meconium and My
Mongoloid Girlfriend (candid title don't?) follow that Crust line and
to me this couple songs are the best here followed by other pearl,
Mundo de Mierda (like Cripple Bastards, also from Italy). Now it's
just to wait for the debut- album because this promo is already a
classic stuff!
